Job Title: Video Streaming Solutions Implementation Engineer

The responsibilities below are intended to describe particular job functions required by Planet Enterprises Limited in the prevailing circumstances of trading. However, all staff must be flexible in their attitude towards changing conditions and demands, and, therefore, be willing to carry out new and different tasks as necessary.

General Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities

  • The implementation of computer based IP video streaming solutions at client sites (including the installation of a range of equipment, operating systems and applications), in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • To work efficiently on their own and as part of a small team under the direction of a Project Manager.
  • Implementation of other project work as required, particularly (but not limited to) associated AV installations.
  • In-house preparation for projects as required, including PC and Server builds and configuration.
  • Preparation of Project documentation as required.
  • Preparation and delivery of training sessions one to one and group based to end users.
  • Installation work is typically undertaken on locations throughout the UK and Northern Ireland and may involve substantial travel and time away from home.

Personal Attributes and Experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • An interest in, and preferably experience of, multimedia content delivery, using media streaming and other network based delivery technologies. An interest in AV Studio and TV Broadcast technologies would also be advantageous.
  • An excellent working understanding of Microsoft technologies including Windows Server 2003 and 2008, Active Directory and Group Policy, IIS 6 & 7, SQL Server 2005 & 2008, Microsoft Windows XP, Windows 7 and Vista. Microsoft accreditations an advantage but not essential.
  • Experience with medium to large Server and PC rollouts.
  • Competent PC and Server hardware and build experience, including RAID storage configuration.
  • Good general networking skills, TCP/IP, DNS/WINS, HTTP(S). Familiarity with general Firewall and security implementations and Switch configurations.
  • Good practical skills regarding physical mounting of equipment, installation of network and other cabling and fitting and soldering of connectors.
  • The role involves lifting and mounting equipment into 19” rack cabinets and installation to desk or similar furniture locations, so a good level of strength and fitness is needed.

Specific Qualifications

The candidate should have obtained:

  • A current valid and clean UK driving licence.
  • An appropriate qualification in Higher Education (e.g. a University Degree or HND) or be able to demonstrate an equivalent ability through practical experience in a related area.
  • Good technical experience of Microsoft technologies.
  • Experience of working in the Education Sector, such as in IT support and deployment, is advantageous.

The successful candidate will require a CRB check.
